Introducing Creality Sonic Pad-A 3D Smart Printing Tablet Based On Klipper

Currently, the marlin control system used by 3D printers has low performance, which can not effectively support high-speed and high-quality printing requirements, and also it limits the innovation of printer structure. While Creality sonic pad is designed to meet the current market demand, and improve the printing speed while ensuring the printing quality.

Sonic screen, sold separately as an accessory, is aimed at 3D lovers who have more than one printer and are in need of printing quality and speed. At the same time, based on Klipper Firmware, it’s friendly for users, and we can perform simple programming to realize the development of new functions and get more DIY ideas.

What’s the Price of the Creality Sonic Pad?

The Creality sonic pad now is currently available in the Creality official store at a price of $159 and available, with limited stock, we hear that there will be more stock in October, so let’s wait for a while.

The source code of Sonic Pad which will be updated continuously in the future is already open. Except for Ender 3v2, Ender 3 s1, and Ender 3s1 pro, you can use it to define other Creality FDM printers with USB ports now.

Problems You Might Need to Know

1. What are the compatible models for the Creality Sonic Pad?

Creality Sonic Pad is compatible with an FDM printer which comes with a USB interface. With the included configuration manual, it is easy to set things up. Besides, it has been pre-configured for Ender-3 V2, Ender-3 S1, and Ender-3 S1 Pro, so you can get it going in seconds.

2. Why does the online upgrade fail?

Reason 1. Failure to download the installation package due to a network anomaly.

Solution: Check whether the network is normal, you need to ensure that the network is normal to complete the download of the upgrade package.

Reason 2. Insufficient free space causes the installation package to fail to download or install.

Solution: If the network is normal but still prompts “download failed”, please check whether the sonic pad has more than 500MB of space. If insufficient space, you should try to clean up part of the slice file or time-lapse photography video files to ensure that the available space is greater than 500MB and then try to upgrade; the network is normal and the available space is sufficient if the prompt “upgrade failed”, you need to contact the after-sales service.

3. Stop printing in the middle of printing?

Check whether the printer and the Sonic pad are connected properly, and check whether the Sonic pad and the printer power supply are connected properly.

4. Why is time-lapse photography not successful?

Reason 1: Whether the camera is connected.

Solution: Enter the configuration – camera to check if there is a live screen, if there is no screen should be turned on first.

Reason 2: Whether the camera is compatible and recognized.

Solution: Confirm that the camera is universal and that the live screen is turned on.

Reason 3: Whether the storage is full.

Solution: Enter configuration – local information to check whether the local capacity is insufficient.

Reason 4: Whether the time-lapse photography settings are correct.

Solution: Check whether time-lapse photography has been turned on and whether the frequency of time-lapse photography is set correctly (the frequency should be less than the number of slicing layers).

5. Where should the vibration sensor be installed for resonance compensation auto-detection? Is there any orientation requirement?

The vibration sensor should be mounted on the hotend, you can use the model file printing bracket provided by Creality, and then fix it on the bracket using screws, no orientation is required.

6. How can the configuration file be compatible with the filament runout detection function?

The configuration file adds

[filament_switch_sensor filament_sensor]

pause_on_runout: true

switch_pin: ^!PC15

Note! switch_pin needs to be confirmed as the filament runout detector connection PIN”

7. Why can’t I successfully connect to the printer?

Reason 1: The printer is not powered on;

Solution: Checking that the printer is powered on.

Reason 2:The printer was not successfully flashed with the correct firmware;

Solution: Checking that the printer firmware is the correct version.

Reason 3:Creality Sonic Pad configuration file error;

Solution: Checking that the configuration files are correctly matched.

Reason 4:The connection cable is not properly connected;

Solution: Checking that the USB connection is correct.

Reason 5:The software version is not correct.

Solution: Check that the current Creality Sonic Pad software version is the latest version.

8. Why does the USB drive read abnormally?

Reason 1: USB drive bad;

Solution: Check whether the U drive is normal, insert the U drive into the computer, try to repair the U drive file system or format, or replace the U drive and try again.

Reason 2: Hardware issue;

Solution: Check whether the USB interface is normal, and try to change other USB interfaces.

Reason 3: Damaged card reader or damaged SD card.

Solution: If you use the card reader method, please try to replace the card reader (or memory card) to determine whether the function is normal.

9. Why do you print on the wrong layer?

Check whether the X, and Y axis motor is normal and the belt is loose.

Confirm whether the slicing printing speed and acceleration exceed the normal range of the printer, and adjust the printing speed and acceleration appropriately (can refer to the slicing parameters provided by Creality)

10. Why is there serious straining when printing after changing the screen?

Confirm whether the parameters related to the slicing file (whether the pullback is enabled, pullback distance, pullback speed, printing speed, etc.) match with the connected printer model, if not, you need to readjust the parameters and slice again.

11. How to transfer time-lapse video to a PC?

1. Fluid download: open the WEB page in the PC browser (refer to the instructions) and download it under the time-lapse menu.

2. USB drive download: insert the USB drive in the configuration – camera – time-lapse video – video details page, click the “Export” button, export the video file to the USB drive, and then copy it from the USB drive to the PC

12. Why does my camera not work properly after I connect it?

Reason 1: The camera is not compatible;

Solution: Creality Sonic Pad loads the camera device by default; if you insert the camera after booting, selecting the camera, and choosing Enable, the camera will show Enabled and wait 2 minutes for the screen to appear (sometimes you need to switch the page again), or after inserting the camera and restarting Creality Sonic Pad, the screen will appear;

Reason 2: Camera is damaged;

Solution: Some cameras are customized cameras, not using YUV and Mjpeg format output, you can try to replace the camera and then use;

Reason 3: The USB port is damaged.

Solution: Unplug the camera and use a USB drive instead to check if the USB is normal, if not, please contact the after-sales service.

13. How to compile the firmware and modify configuration files for non-default models?

Please refer to the printer adaptation guidelines link provided by Creality.

14. How to deal with the Ender3 V2 model that cannot be connected when booting or one-click switching?

Boot guide or a key to choose a model should be selected according to the actual situation, the motherboard version needs to be disassembled, Ender-3 V2 models of the four choices;

a. [CR Touch logo in the upper left corner of the model diagram] Ender-3 V2 (V4.3.1 or V4.2.2) —-The model with CR Touch installed and motherboard version V4.3.1 or V4.2.2

b.Ender-3 V2 (V4.3.1 or V4.2.2) —- The models without CR Touch installed, motherboard version V4.3.1 or V4.2.2

c.Ender-3 V2 (V4.2.7) —- The models without CR Touch installed, motherboard version V4.2.7

d. [CR Touch logo in the upper left corner of the model diagram] Ender-3 V2 (V4.2.7) —- The model with CR Touch installed, and the motherboard version is V4.2.7
